VINNY and RAY: Afro-Cuban Jazz
2024 BRADLEY MUSIC SERIES:
Vinny and Ray showcase their musical versatility with performances spanning Afro-Cuban, Salsa, Timba, Cha-Cha, Funk, Samba, and Latin Jazz. Recognized as one of the premier Latin bands in Connecticut, their album has garnered attention not only in the US but also across Europe. They have built a strong reputation in New York and Connecticut, sharing the stage with luminaries such as Tito Puente, Jose Alberto, Ray Barretto, and Grupo Fasinacion.
In the early 90s, were known as "Orquesta Presion," captivating audiences in New York boroughs, Boston, Virginia, Washington DC, and Connecticut. The band's exceptional talent is evident as Vinny contributes vocals, trumpet, flute, and percussion, while his twin brother, Ray handles timbales, congas, bongos, complemented by five additional bandmates who enrich the Afro-Cuban Jazz experience.
Their accolades include winning an Independent Award in 2004 for the Best Original Latin Song, "Rumba en el Barrio." In the same year, they unveiled their debut album, "Only the Beginning," under Ardel Records, featuring a mix of salsa, merengue, mambo, and instrumental ballads. featuring the songs, "Historia de un Amor", "Mama Guela", "En mi Viejo San Juan", "Hello", and "What you won't do for Love". Vinny and Ray also earned an Achievement Award in 2006, sharing the honor with Eddie Palmieri and Jose Feliciano.
Their composition, "Oh Puerto Rico," was highlighted in the 2009 compilation album "WWE The Music: A New Day, Vol. 10." The original track "Rumba in el Barrio" found a place in the 2010 WWE film, "Knuckle Head," and on the film's soundtrack, "Knucklehead (Music from the Motion Picture)." In 2014, another song by Vinny & Ray, "Peña Flamenca," became the theme song for wrestler Fandango.
Vinny and Ray released their latest album, "Two of a Kind," in October 2015, and in 2016, they received a nomination for Best Latin Jazz Band at The England Salsa Music Awards. The band is currently in the recording process for their first Afro-Cuban Jazz project.
